My C124 likely to switch from Lorinser to AMG

Folks,

I have been hunting for a genuine front Lorinser bumper style L4882111 to match my C124's full body kit, exhaust tail twin-pipe, etc.  Found one in Malaysia a year ago but vendor unwilling to ship and item was shown sold later.  Caught up with Lorinser Germany 18 months ago but reply then was lukewarm.  Tried Australia "CarShine" which referred me back to Lorinser Germany and this time response was more positive, only to find out that it had to be special order (no stock) and price was still 900 Euro, shipping extra.  Found a full AMG full bodykit priced only 799 Euro so told Lorinser and it was ready to offer 35% discount to help me decide to stay Lorinser.   When I found one side skirt also needing replacement, price was 220 Euro each, but again 35% discount, but no stock.  They even have the front fog light embedded in the front bumper in stock!  The bad news was............they have disposed of the molding for the side skirts meaning that it was end of production.  Alas, despite my desire to stay in the Lorsiner camp (for rarity), perhaps it is time to switch.  W124 is still very popular around the world especially in Europe and there is abundant supply of AMG bodykit in Europe and USA.  I noticed that even some are now made in the Mainland and advertised in 28car.  However, mind you fibreglass is not stable and WILL crack at some point meaning needing repaint from time to time.  This is false economy.  Might be tempted to try those made in Fibreglass-Reinforced Plastic (FRP), and heard that many folks in the US found the Duraflex product made in the US satisfactory.  Price is cheap purchasing overseas but shipment is the real killer.  Just wonder if pals know if they have any buddies with genuine AMG bodykit lying around.

do you have a pre-facelifted or post-facelifted model?

I think it is post-facelift - see pictures below.

Yeh, it came with a factory-fitted 4-speed auto gearbox but I replaced it with a W126 5-speed manual gearbox (not the dog-leg from 190E) sourced from Germany.  I also altered the original differential from ratio 3.27 to 3.67.  Car was even more snappy at low range but it suffered from high rpm when cruising at highway and lowered maximum speed.  So I changed again to ratio 3.46 which is the best match for M103.  I said "best match" because my brother's then W126 300SE was fitted with a factory 3.46 differential, and in every respect his W126 pulled much more willingly at all power range than my 300CE.

Shipping bulky item using dimensional weight will set you back by an arm and a leg so will give up the AMG full bodykit by Duraflex found in the US.   There is just too much "ma fan" trying to ship my own way.

Also, the broken side skirt on my CE has been found to be Mercedes stock, not Lorinser's.  No side skirt new stock found in Hong Kong and no 2nd hand found in Kam Tin.  However, the side skirt can be repaired locally.   So have decided to stay Lorinser as Lorsiner Germany made an effort to re-manufacture a front bumper for me to match my rear bumper.  Lorinser also offered me huge discount for the bumper plus a pair of Lorinser spot lights; best part is finding me affordable shipping by air, and I have the added advantage of the weak Euro.

hey martin, sounds great!!
are you saying re-manufacture by Lorsiner? i can't believe they will do it.!

Actually, by "re-manufacture", I meant the bumper ceased production long ago.  Lorinser placed a special order with its authorized manufacturer to produce a new one (not "re-manufacture" an old one) for me.  The bumper is now ready pending shipment to Hong Kong
